Being a parent Is Hard Y’all!

The truth is your body undergoes a lot of changes when you are pregnant, but society expects you to carry on through. If you have found yourself dealing with pain or discomfort while caring for your baby, you are not alone! Did you know that up to 20% of parents complain of pelvic pain after having a baby? And 67% of parents complain of back pain? If you had back pain before or during your pregnancy, do work that is physically demanding, or have multiple children, then your risk of experiencing back pain increases. This can take months or longer to resolve its own!

Many Parents experience postpartum pain, but it doesn’t have to be with you forever

As a physical therapist, I help new parents improve their body mechanics with their children every day so that they can move through their days without pain. And to bring you a more complete solution to help you relieve your pain and get back to moving and exercising again, I have partnered with Alexis Helmrath—mom of 2, certified personal trainer, and founder of Fierce Mama Fitness—to bring you our Pain Free Postpartum Program!!

What Do You Get with The Pain Free Postpartum Program?

  • 10 Self-Paced Modules that will teach you strategies that you can apply even in the most challenging situations to protect your back and pelvic floor

  • Handouts for each module so that you can easily have a reference to those specific activities without needing to watch the whole video again

  • Accessible on your phone, laptop, tablet, or desktop so that you can easily access them while you are feeding your baby or sitting on the toilet avoiding your responsibilities

  • A 4 week workout plan that you can start as early as 2 weeks postpartum that helps to reinforce these different movement patterns so that you can start the process of returning to running, lifting weights, and core exercises safely

  • Videos of each exercise to take the guesswork out of proper form

  • The expertise of a physical therapist and personal trainer who specialize in working with new parents

Alexis and I understand that learning a new skill can feel really daunting, so we spread the information over 10 short videos that you can watch on your computer, phone, or tablet. Most videos are 5 minutes or less!

You will have access to the course material for as long as the course is available to review as needed. If any information is updated or revised, you will have access to the new material as well.

In addition, Alexis has created an exercise program that extends over 4 weeks to complement the skills you will learn in the first part of the course. This program is designed to help you learn a variety of movement patterns for all levels of fitness. These exercises can be started as early as 2 weeks postpartum because the program is made up of movements you are already doing while caring for your tiny human. If you are already back to an exercise routine, this program can be incorporated into an established fitness program to help you reduce your risk of pain or injury.

Listen, if you’re dealing with pain and discomfort, you are not alone. Everyday I see clients in my practice who share their struggles with me. I hear things like:

Emily, why does my back hurt so bad when i’m carrying my baby? (Or toddler)

After having a baby, your core and pelvic floor are so weak and your body is really good at finding ways to still move through the day working around those weak spots. Unfortunately our bones and joints take the brunt of that work around which causes you pain. This is why Alexis and I have a solution for you in our Pain Free Postpartum Program—we will show you how to care for your body while caring for your baby. We are here to teach you how to lift and carry your baby without back pain!

It’s so hard on me to get the car seat in and out of the car and handle it, what can I do?

Car seats are brutal! Their main purpose is to keep your baby safe in the car, but the are not built in a way that makes it easy to lug them around. In our program we will show you a variety of ways to lift and carry the car seat to eliminate your aches and pains!

My back (or hips or shoulders) hurt so bad when I feed my baby, is there anything I can do?

When you do an activity over and over again in the same way, it puts a lot of strain on your body. And as precious as it is, feeding your baby is no exception to that rule. As the baby gets bigger this only gets harder. We will teach you strategies to position yourself in ways to allow feeding to become a special time with your baby!

there is no wrong way to move, but…

Repetitive stresses on your body can lead to injury. This program is designed to teach you different ways to move your body while interacting with your child or children so that you can move through your day without pain.
